Sue Lloyd - A phonics proponent
I chanced upon a lady who is a phonics proponent and we wrote a few emails to each other. She stopped the discussion midway saying that she is busy. I will share with you the gist of our emails in later posts.
Meanwhile, her website is definitely one that all teachers should visit and learn from. It is an excellent website for all academicians.
I will park this article here temporarily before moving it to my main page at www.dyslexiafriend.com.
This website is designed to provide teachers, parents and interested adults with an understanding of synthetic phonics.
“My interest in phonics started many years ago when I taught in a school that changed its method of teaching from the typical look and say approach, where words were memorised, to a strong phonics approach” Sue Lloyd.
This teaching has now become known as synthetic phonics because the children are taught to synthesise: that is, blend the letter sounds to work out the words for themselves.
The aim of this free website, is to provide teachers, parents and interested adults with an understanding of synthetic phonics: how to teach it, the reasons why some children find learning to read and write difficult and what can be done about it.
We will look into "the reason why some children find learning to read difficult" in the next few posts.
