Rotary Club - Membership retention and recruitment

How to be a vibrant club

On 19th July 2018 I attended a Rotary meeting on the above topic.

The Past District Governor (PDG Datuk Zaini Abdul Aucasa) made an excellent presentation. It was as if he was talking to the attendees rather than making a speech as  made by some speakers. I was fully attentive as he was, like I said, speaking to us all and not just making a speech.

He spoke about retention and did in fact say that ‘retention’ must be more important than recruitment as it is placed before the word recruitment in the topic. However, I wish he had spoken more on retention than the good points he talked about recruitment.

He appeared to be proud of the fact that the world membership has been maintained at 1.2 million. I believe this is something to worry about as this has been the figure for the past 19 years or so. With the population increase if the membership is maintained then there is a good possibility that clubs retention is not as good as it should be.

I hope Rotarians around the world will get a copy of my book on why the largest Lions Club in Sabah was De-registered. Read about why Lions International did not act the way it should have.

Every single member counts. Like mother Theresa had said ‘The Ocean will be one drop smaller if not for her one drop of effort’. (That was her response when someone said that what she did amounted to just a drop in the ocean)

Rotarians should learn from the above episode in the Lions movement and understand the saying ‘A stitch in time saves nine’.
